007 First Light has now received its September 15 path-tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction update. Here is what NVIDIA confirms, what changed since the pre-release report, and what still needs independent testing.

The September 15 update is now released

NVIDIA confirmed on September 15, 2026 that the 007 First Light path-tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction update is now live. That changes the status of this canonical from a scheduled-update report to a released-update report: the feature is no longer merely promised for September 15.

NVIDIA says path tracing adds lighting, shadows and reflections to the PC version, while DLSS Ray Reconstruction reconstructs the ray-traced image. The game already included DLSS Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation before this patch, so the release expands an existing DLSS feature stack rather than introducing DLSS for the first time.

Path tracing broadens the lighting workload

NVIDIA describes the released mode as adding path-traced lighting, shadows and reflections. A path-traced mode extends ray-based rendering across more of the lighting solution than a conventional rasterized renderer with selected ray-traced effects, which can materially change both image formation and GPU workload.

That description establishes the rendering features NVIDIA says are present; it does not establish independent image-quality or performance results. Core Tech Tips has not benchmarked the released patch, so this report does not infer universal FPS, frame-time, VRAM, power or latency behavior from the feature list.

Ray Reconstruction and frame generation still do different jobs

DLSS Ray Reconstruction addresses reconstruction of ray-traced lighting data, while Super Resolution reconstructs a higher-resolution output from a lower-resolution rendered input. Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation create additional displayed frames between traditionally rendered frames. Those technologies can operate together, but they act on different parts of the rendering pipeline.

That distinction matters when evaluating the released patch. A displayed frame-rate figure with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation enabled includes generated frames and is not equivalent to the rate at which the game engine produces traditionally rendered simulation frames. Generated-frame throughput alone is therefore not a native-rendering or input-update benchmark.

NVIDIA now publishes recommended path-tracing configurations

NVIDIA’s release article includes recommended system specifications for playing with path tracing on GeForce RTX 50 Series desktop GPUs with DLSS Ray Reconstruction. Those recommendations are vendor guidance for specific configurations, not independent proof of minimum acceptable hardware or a universal requirement for every resolution and quality target.

Feature support and practical performance remain separate questions. A GPU being able to expose an RTX feature does not by itself establish the output resolution, quality mode, frame rate, latency or image quality a particular player will consider acceptable.

NVIDIA’s visual comparisons remain vendor evidence

NVIDIA published before-and-after examples and says path tracing improves lighting accuracy, shadowing, ambient occlusion, reflections and global illumination in the scenes it selected. Those comparisons are useful evidence of NVIDIA’s intended rendering differences, but they remain vendor-produced material rather than independent Core Tech Tips measurements.

A robust independent image-quality review would need repeatable captures from the released build across motion, disocclusion, fine geometry, reflections, lighting transitions and multiple scenes. A small set of vendor-selected stills cannot establish how every scene behaves.

What to measure now that the patch exists

The release makes controlled testing possible. A useful performance test should hold scene, output resolution and quality settings constant, compare path tracing off and on, identify the exact DLSS mode, and record frame times rather than reporting only an average generated FPS. Multi Frame Generation results should be separated from traditionally rendered throughput.

Image-quality testing should likewise state whether Ray Reconstruction is enabled and examine moving sequences rather than only static screenshots. VRAM use, latency, power, minimum playable hardware and any CPU-side effects should be measured directly instead of inferred from NVIDIA’s announcement.

What is confirmed on September 15 — and what remains open

Confirmed now: NVIDIA says the 007 First Light PC path-tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction update is live, path tracing adds lighting, shadows and reflections, and the company recommends its current Game Ready Driver for the update. NVIDIA also publishes recommended RTX 50 Series path-tracing configurations in the release article.

Still not established independently by this announcement are universal performance deltas, a fixed VRAM requirement, a latency result, power consumption, the minimum GPU for an acceptable experience, or a neutral image-quality verdict. Those questions require testing of the released patch under documented conditions.
