Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro Lose Support October 13

Microsoft is reminding users that Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach the end of updates on October 13, 2026. After that date, affected PCs will no longer receive Microsoft’s monthly security and preview updates, fixes for known issues, time-zone updates or technical support for that Windows release.

The deadline also covers Pro Education and Pro for Workstations under Microsoft’s Home and Pro lifecycle family. The operating system will not suddenly stop booting on October 14, but staying on an unsupported release means newly discovered Windows vulnerabilities and defects are no longer handled through the normal servicing channel for those editions.

The October 2026 deadline does not apply uniformly to every PC reporting version 24H2. Microsoft gives Windows 11 Enterprise and Education editions a longer servicing period, and those 24H2 editions remain supported until October 12, 2027.

That edition split matters for managed fleets. An inventory that records only the Windows feature version can make a 24H2 Enterprise workstation look as urgent as a 24H2 Pro machine even though their support deadlines are a year apart. Upgrade planning should therefore identify both the feature version and the installed Windows edition.

Microsoft’s current support guidance tells 24H2 Home and Pro users to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11. Version 25H2 remains a supported destination for compatible PCs, and Microsoft’s Home and Pro lifecycle page lists it as supported into October 2027.

For a personal PC, the practical check is straightforward: open Settings, go to System and then About, and verify both the Windows edition and version before assuming the October deadline applies. On managed PCs, feature-update policies, application compatibility, security software and driver validation can make the migration a deployment project rather than a single Windows Update click.

End of servicing is primarily a future security and maintenance problem, not evidence that the current installation is broken. A stable 24H2 system can continue to run after the deadline, but every month spent on an unsupported branch increases the gap between that machine and Microsoft’s actively serviced Windows code.

That makes the remaining weeks useful for checking application and driver compatibility rather than waiting until the final security update has already passed. The key distinction is edition-specific: Home and Pro-family 24H2 machines are approaching the deadline now, while Enterprise and Education 24H2 deployments still have a substantially longer runway.
