Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro are approaching end of updates

Microsoft says Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach end of updates on October 13, 2026. After that servicing cutoff, PCs that remain on those editions will no longer receive Microsoft's monthly security and preview updates, fixes for known issues, time-zone updates or normal technical support.

This is an edition-specific lifecycle boundary rather than the end of Windows 11 24H2 everywhere. Microsoft says Enterprise and Education editions of 24H2 remain supported until October 12, 2027, so managed organizations should check the installed edition before applying the consumer Home/Pro deadline.

September's preview was already the final 24H2 preview update

Microsoft identifies KB5124010, released September 22, as the final non-security preview update for Windows 11 24H2. Supported 24H2 editions continue receiving monthly security servicing until their applicable lifecycle date, but Home and Pro are now at the end of that path.

Microsoft recommends upgrading to a newer Windows 11 release. Windows 11 25H2 remains supported for Home and Pro until October 13, 2027, while Microsoft has also begun the controlled rollout of Windows 11 26H2 to eligible 24H2 and 25H2 PCs.

A missing 26H2 offer does not necessarily mean the PC is unsupported

Microsoft is rolling out Windows 11 26H2 gradually and can place safeguard holds on devices with known compatibility risks. An eligible 24H2 PC may therefore be offered a newer supported release on a different schedule from another machine.

The important action before the 24H2 Home/Pro servicing cutoff is to verify the installed Windows version and edition and use Windows Update's supported upgrade path. Users should not bypass a compatibility hold merely because 24H2 is approaching end of support; a hold can indicate that Microsoft is still protecting the device from a known upgrade issue.

The cutoff matters most for security servicing

End of support is easy to mistake for an immediate functionality cutoff, but the longer-term security consequence is the material one. A PC can continue running an out-of-support Windows release while its exposure grows as future vulnerabilities and reliability issues are fixed only on supported branches.

For Home and Pro users still on 24H2, October 13 is therefore a servicing deadline rather than a hardware-expiration date. Enterprise and Education administrators have a separate 2027 lifecycle and should follow their own deployment policy rather than the consumer timetable.
