GeForce 617.14 is a launch driver for four upcoming PC games
NVIDIA released GeForce Game Ready 617.14 WHQL on September 22, 2026. The driver adds Game Ready support for CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered and AION 2, while also carrying several fixes for regressions introduced in the Release 615 branch.
The gaming support is broader than a generic day-one profile update. NVIDIA says CONTROL Resonant launches September 24 with path tracing and DLSS 4.5, while Gears of War: E-Day uses ray tracing, DLSS 4.5 and RTX Mega Geometry. AION 2 is scheduled to add DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Multi Frame Generation for its global release, and The Witcher 3 Remastered is listed with path tracing and DLSS 4.5 support.
| Area | 617.14 status | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| New Game Ready support | CONTROL Resonant, Gears of War: E-Day, The Witcher 3 Remastered, AION 2 | Targets launch or major-update support for four RTX/DLSS titles |
| Game launch regression | Judgement, Lost Judgement and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. launch failure fixed | Addresses a problem NVIDIA ties to driver 616.56 |
| HDMI display regression | Samsung Odyssey G95NC no-picture issue fixed | Targets an R615 HDMI regression on this display |
| DisplayPort wake regression | Certain monitors failing to wake from sleep fixed | Targets another R615 display regression |
| Known open issue | Assassin's Creed Shadows may crash after extended gameplay | NVIDIA still lists this as unresolved after updating from 616.56 |
The display fixes may matter more than the game profiles for some users
NVIDIA’s release notes identify two general fixes that are worth checking before rolling back an R615 driver. Version 617.14 fixes a no-picture condition on the Samsung Odyssey G95NC when connected over HDMI and a separate issue where certain monitors may fail to wake from sleep over DisplayPort after updating to R615.
The driver also fixes a launch failure affecting Judgement, Lost Judgement and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. after installing 616.56. These are documented fixes rather than CTT performance claims; NVIDIA does not publish a universal frame-rate uplift for 617.14, so users should not assume the driver makes unrelated games faster.
There is also a developer-facing OpenCL compiler change
Outside gaming, 617.14 changes the default NVIDIA OpenCL JIT compiler from the older Clang 3.4-era stack to a Clang and NVVM 7.0-based compiler. NVIDIA says the newer compiler adds native half-precision floating-point support, 128-bit integer support, updated math libraries and stricter error checking.
That stricter checking is a compatibility detail for developers rather than an automatic benefit for every GeForce user. NVIDIA specifically notes that some code accepted by the old compiler can now produce errors, including attempts to update const variables, some non-global kernel pointer address spaces and variadic arguments in functions or blocks.
Should you install 617.14?
For players preparing for one of the four newly supported games, or users affected by the documented Judgement-family, Samsung G95NC or DisplayPort wake regressions, 617.14 has a clear reason to update. For a stable system that does not need those fixes or launch profiles, the release notes do not establish a general performance reason to update immediately.
The driver is WHQL-certified and available through the NVIDIA app and NVIDIA’s driver download site. As usual, the practical decision should be based on the games, display behavior and applications actually used on the PC rather than treating every new graphics driver as mandatory on release day.
