AMD Ryzen Z3 Rumor Points to 12-CU RDNA 4m Handheld Chip
A new Ryzen Z3 leak points to a semi-custom Zen 6 handheld APU with 12 RDNA 4m CUs, a compact FF6 package and 15W/25W targets.

Ryzen Z3 may be more customized for handhelds
AMD's next Ryzen Z-series handheld processor is rumored to use a semi-custom version of the upcoming Medusa Point design rather than simply reusing a standard laptop APU configuration. Information attributed to leakers Gotou_3rd and CaptainMcShotgun points to four Zen 6 CPU cores plus two low-power cores and an integrated GPU with 12 RDNA 4m Compute Units.
None of those specifications has been confirmed by AMD. Gotou_3rd also cautioned that the CPU configuration may have changed, so the reported 4+2 layout should be treated as an early design claim rather than a final retail specification.
| Area | Reported Ryzen Z3 position | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | 4 Zen 6 cores + 2 low-power cores | Unconfirmed; source says configuration may have changed |
| Integrated GPU | 12 RDNA 4m Compute Units | Unconfirmed; no clocks or performance data |
| Package | FF6, 25 × 25 mm | Reported by leak sources, not AMD-announced |
| Ryzen Z3 power target | Around 15W | Reported optimization target, not a confirmed configurable TDP range |
| Ryzen Z3 Extreme power target | Around 25W | Reported target; exact GPU configuration remains unclear |
The reported design shifts silicon toward graphics
The interesting part of the leak is the balance between CPU and GPU resources. Reporting around standard Medusa Point has associated that family with a larger CPU configuration and an 8-CU integrated GPU. The alleged Ryzen Z3 design instead removes CPU resources while increasing the graphics block to 12 CUs, a trade that would make sense for a power-constrained gaming handheld if the information is accurate.
That does not establish how Ryzen Z3 would compare with the current Ryzen Z2 Extreme. Current high-end Z2 designs can expose more graphics CUs on paper, and Compute Unit counts cannot be compared as a performance benchmark across different architectures, clocks, memory systems and power envelopes.
RDNA 4m is not simply desktop RDNA 4
The leak describes the integrated graphics architecture as RDNA 4m. Current reporting around the design characterizes it as an evolution of AMD's mobile RDNA 3.5 lineage with selected newer capabilities rather than the same architecture and implementation used by discrete RDNA 4 Radeon GPUs.
That distinction matters for expectations around features such as matrix acceleration and FSR. A shared feature does not establish equivalent desktop-RDNA-4 performance, ray-tracing throughput or gaming efficiency.
A smaller FF6 package could matter as much as raw specifications
The sources also point to a 25 × 25 mm FF6 package, smaller than the FP8 package used by Strix Point-derived handheld chips. If confirmed, that would reinforce the idea that Z3 is being designed more deliberately around handheld board space and power constraints instead of being a lightly adapted notebook processor.
The reported split between a roughly 15W Ryzen Z3 and a roughly 25W Ryzen Z3 Extreme is similarly notable, but it remains unclear whether both chips would retain the same 12-CU GPU or differ in disabled units, clocks or other hardware. Until AMD announces the family, the useful takeaway is the design direction suggested by the leak—not a predicted FPS uplift or guaranteed handheld configuration.
