AMD has added two new six-core desktop Ryzen chips
AMD’s current product pages list September 10, 2026 launch dates for two newly released desktop processors: the Ryzen 5 7500 for AM5 and the Ryzen 5 5500F for AM4. Both are six-core, 12-thread CPUs with 65 W default TDP ratings, but they belong to different platform generations and target different upgrade paths.
The Ryzen 5 7500 is a Zen 4 “Raphael” processor on socket AM5, while the Ryzen 5 5500F is a Zen 3 “Vermeer” processor on socket AM4. That makes the launch notable less because the two CPUs compete directly with each other and more because AMD is adding new boxed options at both ends of its still-active desktop platform stack.
Ryzen 5 7500 brings a 5 GHz Zen 4 part to the AM5 lineup
AMD specifies the Ryzen 5 7500 with six Zen 4 cores, 12 threads, a 3.7 GHz base clock and boost clock up to 5.0 GHz. It carries 6 MB of L2 cache and 32 MB of L3 cache, supports DDR5 memory and exposes PCIe 5.0 connectivity through the AM5 platform.
AMD also lists two Radeon graphics cores running at 2.2 GHz on the Ryzen 5 7500. That integrated graphics block matters for basic display output and troubleshooting because the processor does not require a discrete GPU merely to produce a display signal, unlike F-suffixed Ryzen desktop parts that omit integrated graphics.
Ryzen 5 5500F extends AM4 with a new graphics-free Zen 3 option
The Ryzen 5 5500F is also a six-core, 12-thread desktop processor, but AMD lists it as Zen 3 on socket AM4 with a 3.0 GHz base clock and boost clock up to 4.4 GHz. It has 3 MB of L2 cache and 16 MB of L3 cache, supports DDR4 memory and uses PCIe 4.0 connectivity.
AMD explicitly lists “Discrete Graphics Card Required” for the 5500F. That is the practical meaning of the F suffix here: a builder or upgrader must have a discrete GPU available for display output. The processor is otherwise an unlocked 65 W AM4 part and AMD lists support across X570, X470, X370, B550, B450, B350 and A520 chipsets, subject to the exact motherboard firmware and vendor support matrix.
The Ryzen 5 7500 is not just a renamed 7500F
AMD’s existing Ryzen 5 7500F is also a six-core, 12-thread Zen 4 AM5 processor, which makes the new 7500 easy to confuse with it. The important functional distinction is integrated graphics: AMD lists Radeon graphics on the Ryzen 5 7500, whereas the 7500F requires a discrete graphics card.
That difference can matter even in a gaming PC that normally uses a discrete GPU. Basic integrated display output can simplify initial setup, firmware work and GPU troubleshooting. It does not prove that the Ryzen 5 7500 is faster in CPU workloads, and Core Tech Tips is not inferring a benchmark result from the product specifications alone.
AM4 and AM5 remain very different upgrade decisions
The two new processors share a core count and TDP class, but platform cost and compatibility are governed by different ecosystems. Ryzen 5 5500F uses AM4 and DDR4, so it can be relevant to an existing compatible AM4 system where the motherboard vendor provides firmware support. Ryzen 5 7500 uses AM5 and DDR5 and belongs to AMD’s newer platform with PCIe 5.0 capability.
A processor being electrically compatible with a socket family is not enough to guarantee a drop-in upgrade. The exact motherboard model, BIOS version, power delivery, memory support and vendor CPU-support list still need to be checked. The launch therefore creates two additional CPU choices, not a universal recommendation to stay on AM4 or move to AM5.
Specifications do not establish gaming performance or value
Clock rate, cache capacity, architecture and platform generation are useful facts, but they are not substitutes for controlled benchmark evidence. A 5.0 GHz boost specification on one architecture cannot be converted directly into a percentage performance advantage over a 4.4 GHz chip on another architecture, and platform differences can affect the rest of the system configuration.
AMD’s product pages also do not provide Core Tech Tips with a basis for a universal value verdict. Real value depends on regional CPU pricing, motherboard and memory cost, the parts already owned, workload, GPU pairing and alternative products available at the time of purchase. This report therefore treats the launch as a platform and specification update rather than a “best budget CPU” ranking.
What this launch changes for PC builders
For new AM5 systems, the Ryzen 5 7500 adds another six-core Zen 4 option with integrated graphics and a boxed Wraith Stealth cooler according to AMD’s specification page. For existing AM4 owners, the Ryzen 5 5500F adds another six-core Zen 3 option that keeps DDR4 and AM4 but requires discrete graphics.
The useful next step for either processor is evidence-led comparison: verify motherboard support first, then compare current total platform cost and controlled application or gaming benchmarks against nearby alternatives. Until those conditions are known, the confirmed news is simply that AMD has expanded both AM5 and AM4 with two newly launched six-core desktop SKUs.
