AMD identifies the Radeon RX 9070 XT as a desktop Radeon RX 9000 Series GPU based on the RDNA 4 generation. AMD currently lists 64 Compute Units, 64 Ray Accelerators, 128 AI Accelerators, 4,096 stream processors, and 128 ROPs. These are official vendor specifications, not Core Tech Tips benchmark measurements or evidence of a particular gaming frame rate.

Use this reference to establish the GPU-level specification before checking the exact card you intend to install. AMD sells the RX 9000 family through board-partner designs, so cooler size, slot thickness, factory clocks, BIOS modes, connector placement, and other physical or electrical details can differ by model.

AMD specifies a 2400 MHz Game Clock and boost frequency up to 2970 MHz

AMD lists a 2400 MHz Game Clock and a boost frequency of up to 2970 MHz for the RX 9070 XT. AMD defines Game Clock as the expected GPU clock when running typical gaming applications, while actual individual game-clock results can vary. Boost is a maximum-frequency specification under bursty workloads rather than a guaranteed sustained operating frequency.

Clock figures should therefore not be converted directly into a performance ranking. Actual frequency and performance depend on workload, power, thermals, firmware, driver behavior, and the exact partner implementation. Factory-overclocked partner cards can also publish different clock specifications.

The official memory configuration is 16 GB GDDR6 on a 256-bit interface

AMD specifies 16 GB of GDDR6, a 256-bit memory interface, memory speed up to 20 Gbps, memory bandwidth up to 640 GB/s, and 64 MB of AMD Infinity Cache for the RX 9070 XT. Capacity, bus width, signaling rate, bandwidth, and cache are different properties and should not be collapsed into one generic measure of GPU speed.

AMD lists PCIe 5.0 x16 as the RX 9070 XT bus type. That is the card’s documented host-interface capability, not a claim that every system must expose a Gen 5 graphics link simply to use the GPU. PCI Express is designed to negotiate compatible link operation across generations when the platform, firmware, slot wiring, and device support it.

Do not infer a gaming-performance delta from PCIe generation alone without workload-specific measurements. For an upgrade, separately verify the motherboard slot, physical clearance, firmware, power supply, and any lane-sharing behavior. AMD’s current RX 9070 XT specification page lists DisplayPort 2.1a and HDMI 2.1b connectivity. Those version labels establish supported interface families at the GPU specification level; they do not guarantee that every partner card exposes the same number or arrangement of physical ports.

A display path is also an end-to-end link involving the exact GPU output, cable, monitor input, resolution, refresh rate, color format, bit depth, and any compression mode. AMD specifies 304 W typical board power and a 750 W minimum PSU recommendation

AMD currently lists 304 W Typical Board Power for the desktop RX 9070 XT and a 750 W minimum PSU recommendation. Typical Board Power is a graphics-card specification; it is not a Core Tech Tips measurement of whole-system wall consumption, and the PSU recommendation should not be read as the GPU itself continuously drawing 750 W.

The appropriate PSU still depends on the CPU, other components, PSU quality and capacity, connector support, and the exact board-partner card. AMD’s current product specification also lists 2×8-pin supplementary power at the GPU reference/specification level, but buyers should verify the exact shipping card because partner implementations can differ.

Peak compute and media features are specifications, not independent performance results

AMD lists peak FP32 vector performance of 48.7 TFLOPs for the RX 9070 XT and publishes additional peak matrix-compute figures for supported lower-precision formats. These are vendor peak-compute specifications. They are useful for identifying documented capability, but they are not interchangeable with independent gaming, ray-tracing, AI, rendering, or application benchmarks.

AMD also lists hardware support for H.264 and H.265/HEVC encode/decode plus AV1 encode/decode. Software support, codec settings, quality, throughput, and application behavior remain separate questions; this reference does not claim measured media-engine performance.

That makes the distinction between GPU specification and shipping add-in board important: do not copy a cooler dimension, slot thickness, factory overclock, connector position, BIOS mode, or physical clearance figure from a different RX 9070 XT model.
